  • Rock ‘N Roll San Diego – Typically held in early June, Rock ‘N Roll San Diego draws runners from far and wide to America’s Finest City. The 26.2-miler traverses in and out of scenic San Diego, from Balboa Park through historic neighborhoods, including Hillcrest and Mission Hills. Before you reach the finish line at Waterfront Park, you’ll enjoy live music along the way.
  • Grandma’s Marathon – The popular Duluth, Minnesota Grandma’s Marathon didn’t get its name because it’s only for grandmas, although many complete the race each year. Instead, this June run got its namesake from the finish line location – Grandma’s Restaurant, a legendary local saloon. The race draws plenty of international runners and welcomes up to 8,500 competitors each year.
  • Pikes Peak Marathon – This late-August marathon is perfect for the runner who wants a serious challenge. It’s known the world over for its gradual ascent to over 14,000 feet. The course starts at Memorial Park in Manitou Springs, Colorado and then travels through scenic Pikes Peak National Forest. This is most definitely a bucket-list run for the adventurous marathoner!
  • Australian Outback Marathon – Grab a gold medal Down Under during the Australian Outback Marathon, held annually in late July. This run centers around the stunning scenic landscape of Uluru (Ayers Rock), a large sandstone rock in central Australia. On the course, you’ll watch ample Australian red earth, dirt roads and sand dunes pass by as you race to the finish.
  • Inca Trail Marathon – If you’ve always wanted to make the trek to Machu Picchu, now’s the time. Due to the challenges complied by elevation, the 26.2-mile Inca Trail Marathon has been called “the most difficult marathon in the world.” Along the way, you’ll get to experience ancient ruins, archeological sites and amazing views of Peru’s Cuzco Region. This marathon is typically held in August.
  • Big Five Marathon – Run alongside wildlife in the Savannah of South Africa at the Big Five. The full marathon takes place annually in June, the perfect time of year to spot lions, zebras, giraffes and antelope along the trail. The course is considered challenging, with sand, concrete, dirt roads and plenty of elevation – not for the novice runner!
  • Shipyard Maine Coast Marathon – This May marathon is a must for marathoners looking for a scenic summer run. It traverses alongside the Maine coastline and meanders through the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge. Although often considered one of the most scenic U.S. marathons, Shipyard still brings a charming, small-town feel and won’t be over-saturated with participants.
